Breathing therapy
Breathing therapy, with an integrated body-centred consultation, assumes that the psychological conditions of the body are expressed through their physical equivalent in the physiology, through expression and in motion, and vice versa: the way muscles are used and the type of breathing indicate psychological-mental experiences and behaviour. The first signs of a disturbance, or source of a problem, can be recognised and included in the recovery process by sensitisation of the body's perception. The treatment involves breathing therapy when lying or sitting, relaxation exercises, role-play dialogues and physical experiences, as well as discussions. By activating the body's own self-healing powers, it is possible to develop a positive relationship with one's own body, to release energy and alleviate afflictions.
How does the breathing therapy help?
To alleviate sleep problems, breathing problems, digestive problems, eating disorders (especially overweight), high blood pressure, nervousness, restlessness, inferiority complexes, etc. With children with attention deficiency and⁄or hyperactivity disorder. To support patients with medical and⁄or psychotherapeutic treatments. Prophylactic for relaxation or vitalisation.
Sonja Bernhard
is a social pedagogue (HFS) who completed her training in body-centred psychological consultation and holistic-integrated breathing therapy (IKP) in Zurich in 1999. Since then, she has combined these methods, particularly with children⁄young people and the handicapped. Her work is recognised by most medical and accident-insurance companies.
