Shiatsu
In Japanese, 'SHI' means finger and 'ATSU' means pressure. Shiatsu, which is also called acupressure, is a form of oriental massage whereby pressure is applied to certain points at which the flow of energy through the body is blocked. These blockages in the flow of energy can cause pain, tension and fatigue. Pressure applied with the fingers, hands, elbows, knees and feet, together with stretching and gentle touching, stimulate and balance energy channels and, as a result, the deep energy structures associated with them. Shiatsu is performed on a lightly clothed body or directly on the skin.
How does Shiatsu help?
Shiatsu can alleviate tension, back pain, migraine, menstrual disorders, respiratory tract problems, insomnia, nervousness and stress. Ideally, it is used as a preventive measure to foster health, vitality and resistance within the body, strengthen internal organs and maintain the flow of energy.
